W. Bro. D. Williams   W. Bro. David Williams

The funeral of W. Bro. David took place at 11am on Monday, 20th. August at St. Alphege Church, Church Hill Rd, Solihull B91 3RQ. The service was followed by a private committal. The church service was attended by scores of relatives, friends and brethren, all of whom were invited to join Shirley, W. Bro. David's widow and family afterward for a luncheon reception at the Ramada Hotel.

The family requested family flowers only but, on leaving the Church, a box was available for those who wished to make a donation in aid of the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.

W. Bro. David, 79, was a founding member of Cyfrinfa Dewi Sant, and served as Master in 2014 and 2015. He was also a Past Master of the Lodge of Fellowship No. 6707 and the Lodge of Jurisprudence No. 9547 in the neighbouring Province of Warwickshire.

Alan Dennett in the recent 100-mile Birmingham Velo Cycle Ride, he is pictured here presenting a cheque for £1,200.00 to Emma Butler, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimers UK. Also pictured is W. Bro. Clive Ash, Lodge Charity Steward.

Bro. Alan has a relative who has been affected by Alzheimer's Disease so it was his wish the the magnificent sum raised from sponsorship should be donated to the national charity Alzheimers UK.

As all of the Lodges meeting under the banner of the Province of Worcestershire are busy raising money toward the target of £2,022,000.00 set by Provincial Grand Master R.W. Bro. Robert Vaughan toward the Festival 2022 total, Bro. Alan has kindly volunteered to take part in the next Birmingham Velo - this time with the proceeds of his ride going toward our Festival total.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     WHAT A FANTASTIC EVENING!

It was a full house at the Kidderminster Masonic Centre on Friday, 23rd February when Masons from London, Devon and a number of other counties joined the members of Cyfrinfa Dewi Sant (the Lodge of St. David) for our Festival of Dewi Sant, our Patron Saint.

It was our largest attendance since 2004, with members of the Worcestershire Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge, the Moseley Lodge and the Page Lodge being particularly well represented. Our Lodge also invited the Masters of each of the other Lodges meeting at Kidderminster and Stourport as guests of the Lodge, and it was our pleasure to welcome them to the meeting.  Following our regular meeting our members and guests adjourned to the festive board where a fine dinner accompanied by wines and port was enjoyed by all.

Following the customary toasts, the brethren enjoyed a prolonged 'gymanfa ganu' (songfest) of uplifting song and humour. There was very loud laughter and acclamation whenever the immortal words "To the Regiment - I wish I was there!" were mentioned.

Around 30 requests were left with our Secretary by brother visitors requesting an invitation to attend again next year.

We welcome new members - if you'd like to become a Freemason and a member of our Lodge, simply contact us via our Contact Us link. All the information you need is there. We look forward to hearing from you!

The 2018 Festival of St. David Meeting - Friday, 23rd. February

We are looking forward to yet another very well-attended Festival of St. David - another meeting to remember!

Our 2017 Dewi Sant Festival attracted an excellent number of visitors, most of whom asked to be invited again this year. This will be a Regular Meeting and the main item of labour will be to receive a highly entertaining presentation of W. Bro. Alex Sinton's excellent lecture “I support Manchester United, Why do I Have to Wear Light Blue?”- his entry in the Provincial Lecture Competition.

Our famous festive board will commence with the ceremonial opening of the gathering at the tables, carried out by the Worshipful Master and the newest member of the lodge, an Entered Apprentice. The ceremony is reminiscent of the ancient Welsh bardic tradition which has been adopted at modern meetings of the National Eisteddfod.  This will be followed by an excellent dinner after which we will commence our interactive musical interlude which will include much humour and singing, culminating in our famous musical allusion to the on the 22nd January 1879, when members of ‘B’ Company, 2nd. Battalion, the 24th. Regiment of Foot (the South Wales Borderers) assisted by others totalling 139 troops (40 of whom were in the hospital) successfully defended the station against a sustained onslaught by 4,500 Zulus. ELEVEN VC’s BEFORE BREAKFAST!

Our dining fee for the evening will be £22.00 pp including wine and port. The  menu for the meeting will be:

Leek & Potato Soup

Roast Welsh Lamb with Mint Sauce, Roast Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables

Snowdon Pie and Custard

Cheese, Celery, Grapes & Biscuits

Coffee and Mints

Visitors should please confirm their names, ranks, lodge names & numbers, together with those of any other guests you wish to invite, together with details of any salutation entitlement and special dietary requirements if appropriate.  Visitors are requested not to attempt to smuggle spears, rifles, assegais, pith helmets, knobkerries, shields or grass skirts into the meeting(!).

Another New Brother joins us . . .

The Lodge of Dewi Sant enjoyed a wonderful evening of ceremonial and celebration on Friday, 26th. January 2018 when a new member was warmly welcomed into the lodge and into Freemasonry.  Bro. Clive had teetered on the edge of applying to become a Freemason for many years, always believing that he would be too busy to enjoy it because of his work commitments. Having finally made the decision to become a member of our lodge, Bro. Clive is now wishing that he'd joined many years ago (haven't we all said the same?). Our lodge is a welcoming open gateway to Freemasonry and our new member is now finding that he has thousands of new friends and that the doors of thousands of lodges across the world will be open to him.

The Lodge of Harmony, Devon Greets Festival Ted

Our Festival Ted is certainly piling on the miles - thanks to our Festival 2022 Steward, Alan. Here is Ted pictured with the Master of the Lodge after a wonderful meeting.

2018 Provincial Grand Lodge - University of Birmingham

The 172nd. meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Worcestershire will take place on the 9th. June 2018 at 10.15am.

The 2017 Festival of St. David Meeting

The principal labour in the lodge room was an entertaining and informative presentation entitled "Charley’s Aunt was a Freemason.” by W.Bro. John Harmshaw. The presentation was John's entry in the Worcestershire Provincial Lecture Competition, and was a humorous look at Actor Freemasons in Victorian times.

Following our labours, we celebrated the feast day of the Patron Saint of Wales, St. David (Dewi Sant) at our festive board. Our Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Kevin Nock commenced proceedings with our traditional ritual opening of the festive board, reminiscent of the ancient Bardic Eisteddfod. We then enjoyed our fine four-course Welsh dinner of Potato and Leek Soup, Roast Welsh Lamb with seasonal vegetables, Snowdon Pie, Cheese Board, Wines, Port and Coffee and mints.

Once again, Bro. Secretary, W. Bro. Graeme Llewellyn Collins acted as Director of Music, leading the brethren in a highly entertaining musical interlude - including an allusion to the action at Rorke’s Drift, Natal on the 22nd January 1879, when members of ‘B’ Company, 2nd. Battalion, the 24th. Regiment of Foot (the South Wales Borderers) assisted by others totalling 139 troops successfully defended the station against a sustained onslaught by 4,500 Zulus. ELEVEN VC’s BEFORE BREAKFAST!

Visiting brethren received a very warm welcome and vowed that they would return in 2018.

Family Sunday Lunch at Rainbow Hill

It’s the custom in our lodge for each Worshipful Master to organise an annual social event to celebrate the support and commitment of the wives of our members.

14-07-27-FamilyLunch.jpgOn this occasion, our Worshipful Master, Ken Dunham arranged a family lunch on Sunday, 27th. July to which non-masons and their families were also invited.

The luncheon was held at the Worcester Masonic Centre, Rainbow Hill, Worcester, which also accommodates the Worcestershire Museum of Freemasonry – the largest collection of Masonic artefacts and memorabilia in the UK, second only to the collection of the United Grand Lodge.

The day began with a fascinating and informative guided tour of the Library and Museum, followed by a highly enjoyable three-course lunch with wine – all provided at a cost of £20 per person. Some of our members and their families are pictured below.

As a gesture of gratitude to the Museum staff for giving up their valuable time to attend to us, our guests arranged a collection following which a cheque for £150.00 was donated to the Museum by our Worshipful Master.
